I started work on adding the final gameplay features to Dess M-8. Between the little time I had yesterday, and the little more time I had today, I have seemingly straightened out the menu system to accept the new post level 50 game modes.
I wanted to make the levels unlock as soon as you beat level 50, and since the menu unlock system was originally linear, it was a bit of a chore making things work as they should with the new non-linear system in place. But, after working at it for a while, and adding some new variables, it seems to be working.
The new additions are
"H" - Hard Levels: Difficult to achieve gold ranks on with any gun. Gun select is available for Hard Levels.
"C" - Challenge Levels: Instead of a 30 second timer, you only have 10 seconds. You either beat the level or you don't. This mode is meant to be very unforgiving and difficult. I plan on making the levels very strategic and requiring lots of optimization.
"R" - Rando Rush: You first choose a difficulty, then choose a gun. 5 levels are procedurally generated based on your difficulty choice. After beating 1 level, you are immediately sent into the next proc gen level. Your score is based on the average of the 5 level scores combined. Higher difficulties award higher credit totals....maybe. Not sure about the reward system for these yet. There's no credit sink beyond gun leveling in the game. I had an idea for one, but I'm not sure if I'll add it or not.
Tomorrow, I work on some rules splash screens and some more level select menu tweaks for the rando rush. Getting closer to the end. I can see a faint light at the end of the tunnel.
Until next time.
Total Time Spent Today and Yesterday: ~4 hours
I did a few bug fixes today as well. Some menu items were hanging around all invisible and whatnot, making people go to levels that they should be able to go to, and making the level select screen display the wrong data. Pssh.
